Cancel your Online Services account

  • If you think someone else knows your User ID and password, you must immediately change your password, or cancel your Online Services account or contact the help line 0800 473 249.
  • When a user, registered on behalf of an employer or tax agency to use the service, leaves and is no longer authorised by that employer or tax agency their Online Services account must be cancelled immediately (no later than 7 days after the user leaving or ceasing to be responsible for conducting business on behalf of that employer or tax agency). If the user has left and the User ID and password are not known contact the help line on 0800 473 249.
  • If we consider that a User ID has become inactive we may cancel your Online Services account.

Protecting your password

You will be prompted to change your password when you first log on to the service. Your new password must:

  • be between 5 and 8 characters long
  • include at least 3 letters of the alphabet
  • include at least 2 numbers from 0 to 9
  • not be obvious and should not contain readily accessible information relating to you, such as your or your employer's address, birth date, telephone number, car licence plate number, driver licence number or passport number
  • be different to any previous passwords

Remember to keep your user ID, password and verification word or phrase confidential. Here are some good practices:

  • Choose a User ID and password you can remember easily, but that other people won't guess. That means avoiding words like "password", your name or your pet's name.
  • Change your password often.
  • Keep it confidential.
  • Don't write it down anywhere.

If you think that someone has gained knowledge of your User ID and password, you are advised to immediately change your password, or cancel your Online Services account.
