Find out how benefits, entitlements or tax debts can affect your KiwiSaver contributions.

you can choose whether to have KiwiSaver contributions deducted from your payments. However, you won't receive an employer contribution. |
| receive an income tested benefit | you can't have KiwiSaver contributions deducted from your benefit. However, you can choose to make voluntary contributions directly to Inland Revenue or to your KiwiSaver provider. |
| get paid by your employer while also receiving a benefit | contributions will be deducted from your pay unless you apply for a contributions holidays. |
| have a Working for Families tax credits entitlement | it won't be affected if you're a member of KiwiSaver. |
| are making or receiving any child support payments | they won't be affected by having KiwiSaver contributions deducted. |
| have a student loan | you must still meet your student loan obligations, whether you're a KiwiSaver member or not. |

have a tax debt with Inland Revenue |
you must still meet your tax obligations. Your KiwiSaver contributions won't be used to pay off tax debts. |
| receive Job Support scheme payments | they will be included as before-tax pay when calculating both your and your employer's contributions. |

receive paid parental leave
|
your KiwiSaver contributions will continue if you're still receiving payments from your employer. If you're not receiving payments from your employer your contributions will stop automatically. You can contact Inland Revenue to keep them going. |

receive a payment under a Voluntary Bonding scheme funded by the Ministry for Primary Industries, the Ministry of Health or the Ministry of Education |
you won't have KiwiSaver contributions deducted from your payment and you won’t receive an employer contribution. |
| receive Weekly Income Compensation or Weekly Compensation under the Veterans’ Support Act 2014 | you can choose whether to have KiwiSaver contributions deducted from your payments. However, you won't receive an employer contribution. |
