KiwiSaver numbers closing in on 700,000

KiwiSaver membership has passed 670,000 with more than 2300 new members signing up every day in May, nearly equalling April's record pace.

As at 31 May some 673, 942 people had joined KiwiSaver.

Finance Minister Michael Cullen said it was especially gratifying to see so many young New Zealanders starting a savings habit - more than 180,000 KiwiSavers are under 25 years old.

Revenue Minister Peter Dunne praised the cooperation of employers in ensuring KiwiSaver had quickly become part of the New Zealand workplace.
