Number of active/provisional KiwiSaver members by scheme entry method

This graph shows three lines, plotting increases of active or provisional KiwiSavers members who joined a scheme through:

• active choice,
• automatic enrolment to an employer’s chosen scheme, or
• automatic enrolment to a default scheme.

The vertical axis of this graph shows the cumulative total of enrolled KiwiSaver members in each scheme entry method. The horizontal axis shows data from December 2016 to November 2017.

• Between December 2016 and November 2017, the number of active/provisional members who joined a scheme through active choice increased, from 1.9 million to 2 million.
• Between December 2016 and November 2017, the number of active/provisional members automatically enrolled to an employer’s nominated scheme stays the same at 201 thousand.
• Between December 2016 and November 2017, the number of active/provisional members automatically enrolled to a default scheme increased, from 569 thousand to 572 thousand.
