Change or stop contributions

You can contribute more, less, or take a break from contributing. Once you are eligible to withdraw for retirement you can stop contributions.

Change your contribution rate

You can contribute 3%, 4%, 6%, 8% or 10% of your pay. Changing your rate is easy.

Can you stop your contributions?

There are only limited circumstances where you can completely stop contributing to KiwiSaver, but you could consider taking a break with a savings suspension.

Take a savings suspension

If you're an employee, once you've been a member for 12 months you can take a break from saving - this is called a savings suspension.

Stopping after your end payment date

You can stop making contributions to your KiwiSaver when you reach 65 and have been a member for at least 5 years. If you joined after 1 July 2019 you can stop making contributions once you reach 65.
